Brothers and Sisters,
Sunday was a great day! As our band prayed, I walked up to the pulpit, placed my Bible down, my iPad, and my phone—which I use as a timer to make sure I don’t preach until dinner. As the prayer ended, I opened my eyes and saw all the kids stand up and begin making their way to the kids’ hallway. After looking at our numbers, I could hardly believe it. Our kids make up 25-30% of our church body!
I know that some of you, as parents, are trying to discern when your kids should sit with you in the main service. This is a decision for each family to make. We can’t set a specific age because every child is different. Mine may look very similar, but they couldn’t be more different! So, how should parents answer the question: “When should we bring our kids into the service with us?” Let’s turn to one of my favorite questions… do you know what it is?
What does the Bible say about that? 5 Things
- The Bible teaches that children are a blessing from the Lord.
- Genesis 33:5; Psalm 127:3-5
- The Bible teaches that we should give thanks to God for these blessings.
- The Bible teaches that kids are not perfect, and they need Jesus.
- Romans 3:23; Hebrews 12:2
- Praise God for kids making noise in the service. Churches that don't have this noise are dying.
- The Bible teaches that kids grow up to look more like Jesus through the study and preaching of the Word of God.
- 2 Timothy 3:15-17; John 17:17; Romans 10:17
- The Bible teaches that kids are to be discipled primarily by their parents (especially by their fathers) and secondarily by the Church in the admonition of the Lord.
- Deuteronomy 6:6-7; Proverbs 22:6; Ephesians 6:4
Because of this, we are happy to provide nursery through 2nd grade, but the goal—according to Scripture—is to bring them into the service as soon as possible.
This week, I am talking to Ryleigh about the importance of being in the service with Becca and I so we can worship together as a family. This is the way. Let’s strive to worship together as a family and with The Family. We must train up our children.
